You missed the last one where it reads, “oh crap I just twisted the bolt in two, should have used an impact.”

Here in the rust belt, I usually start with a breaker bar about the same length as the bottom ratchet in that photo (unless space requires I go shorter).

From there I move up to the impact gun, or occasionally the 3/4" drive breaker bar with a 40" handle.

Side note, I got a set of these for my birthday.

The longer wrench is as long as my normal breaker bar. I can’t wait to pull my corvair back apart to take another shot at the gear oil leaks.

I finally had a chance to use my electric impact I got a while back when I did the brakes on my wife’s Corolla this weekend. Why didn’t I buy an impact sooner?! Now it’s going to take me longer to jack up the car than it will to swap my winter tires in a couple of weeks!

To remove a subframe I once had to break out the 1" drive air impact wrench.

I’m even more impressed with the gasoline engine powered impacts. My friend wanted a cordless impact gun for removing lug nuts in the junkyard. I suggested one of those as a joke ;)

It’s almost mind-blowing how big the difference is between working on your car with and without an impact wrench. I got one for my Father a few years back and it’s amazing how much faster things come apart and how much better I feel the next day due to lack of muscle fatigue.

These things are incredibly powerful. We have one in the company. But despite being powerful they don’t last forever. Our first one got tired and it didn’t tighten thing properly anymore. We had one city bus escape from its clamps on a chassis dynamometer before we realized that the poor Milwaukee was getting old.

Love that set, however, I’m a bit leery of using them to break a bolt that I need to slide a cheater pipe over the handle. I locked up my 3/8” shorter gearwrench doing that in a salvage yard. It was able to disassemble and regrease the head and all is well, but it’s got me a bit gunshy. But that’s what breaker bars are for. That 84 tooth action is the shot though. Love it.

Bare tool, 2763-20. Already heavily invested in the Milwaukee batteries. I think the kit (2763-22) is closer to $400.

These are 120's. I’ll say this, so far these ratchets and the Sunex socket set I got are the business.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LNH7728/

The U-joint sockets and wobbles have nothing on the ball joint style. So much easier to work with.

I once broke a breaker bar that was about as long as “I Wasn’t Asking”. U joint just gave up the ghost.

Friend’s father was actually floored that I had put enough twist through the U joint to shear the metal.

AvE got one of these recently and has been using it to test how much torque different wrenches can handle before breaking.

You just cost me $200 on an impulse buy. We’ve got a weak Milwaukee cordless and a weak air impact at work that can’t loosen lug nuts. Since I’ve got Hitachi stuff at home I now have one of these on the way. As soon as my winter tires show up they shall be swapped onto the car since there is snow in the forecast.

Son of a... o could’ve had the 120s for like $4 more than the 84 tooth set. That’s upsetting. The 84s are good, but wow, 120 would be the shit. Nice find.

It’s 1/2", 255 ft-lbs. It should be able to knock everything loose for me. I use a torque wrench for everything, and my truck at 150 ft-lbs is the only thing over 100 ft-lbs.

I’ve seen a teardown of the mechanism, it’s actually really interesting. The 120s have two pawls offset by half a tooth and a 60 tooth gear while the 84 has a single standard.

40" length, 1-inch drive breaker bar. For when you absolutely, positively must shear that bolt head right off.
